GFFF is now officially a Competitive Member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation.
GFFF brings its distinctive identity and selection as Galicia’s freakiest festival to the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF), a network of genre film festivals spanning 21 countries. With a combined attendance of over 800,000 people, MIFF is a vital cultural and economic force inthe exhibition of fantastic cinema worldwide. GFFF joins this select community celebrating the strangest, most transgressive, and uncompromising voices in genre cinema.
As a competitive member, GFFF will organize the Méliès d’Argent short film competition at GFFF #X 2026. European short films from the official selection will be eligible for this prestigious award, granted by a distinguished jury.
GFFF’s commitment to artistic excellence and community engagement has also been recognized with the prestigious EFFE Label (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe), the European quality label for outstanding arts festivals. Awarded by the European Festivals Association and supported by the European Commission, the EFFE Label distinguishes festivals that demonstrate exceptional dedication to the arts, deep engagement with their local communities, and an open international perspective.

The GALICIAN FREAKY FILM FESTIVAL is the definitive freak cinema and culture event. As the International Freak and Fantastic Film Festival of Galicia, it showcases a carefully curated national and international selection of audiovisual pieces that are often deprived of conventional distribution channels. Pieces often unseen in Galicia, with major world, international, and national premieres. It’s the only festival in the world that subtitles all foreign films in Galician.
