LUIS BARBOO: THE MAN FROM VIGO WHO WALKED AMONG THE STARS

As part of the special activities for the 9th edition, we will pay a well-deserved tribute to a singular and little-known figure of Galician cinema and our city: the actor and stuntman Luis Barboo (Vigo, 1927–2001).

SCREENING: LUIS BARBOO – CONAN THE BARBARIAN
Internationally recognized for his role as Rexor in the classic Conan the Barbarian (John Milius, 1982), Barboo developed a prolific film career spanning over three decades, participating in more than 150 films and sharing the screen with cinema legends like Clint Eastwood, Kirk Douglas, Charlton Heston, Christopher Lee, Sean Connery, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Before the screening of Conan the Barbarian, there will be a talk titled “Luis Barboo: the Vigo man who walked among the stars“, where the audience will have the opportunity to learn about the life and career of an actor whose story deserves to be told.
The talk will be conducted by:
Josiño Araujo (Vigo, 1986)

He studied Law at the University of Santiago de Compostela and at the University of Barcelona, and Audiovisual Production at I.E.S. Audiovisual in Vigo.
He was a contributor to various digital and analog media (A Nova Peneira, Atlántico Diario, Europa FM, and La Marea, under a pseudonym), directed several short films and music videos, was awarded for some of his stories, and has published two novels: Memorias dun exgalego and San Meteoro.
He currently practices as a lawyer in Vigo, combining this with his activity as a producer, film distributor, and writer.
Miriam P. Álvarez (Vigo, 1990)

Graduate in Audiovisual Communication from UCM. She began her journey collaborating as a volunteer in cultural events in the city of Vigo. Founding member of GFFF – Galician Freaky Film Festival, she served as Assistant Director between 2017 and 2021, taking on the role of Assistant Director since the 2022 edition.
In the audiovisual field, she has worked as production and direction assistant in music videos for local bands such as Broken Peach, Aphonnic, Stoned at Pompeii, Medín, and Cubo Metálico. She presented and directed the YouTube programs Ministerio do Cinema Freak and Cinema Caníbal focused on film outreach.
