Special Effects Workshop

In this edition and by popular request, we will once again hold a FX workshop with TWO GROUPS so twice as many pequefreaks can enjoy it!

The workshop will be taught once again by FX master, Ricardo Spencer, who will teach them new tricks with latex and blood, whether for their next Halloween costume or for their future audiovisual productions.

Designed especially for the youngest members of the family, this workshop becomes one of the most anticipated activities for pequefreaks in each edition, who enjoy learning professional techniques while unleashing their imagination.

The enthusiasm and creativity that this workshop awakens prove that Pequefreak is not only a festival to enjoy, but also an authentic breeding ground for future artists in cinema and special effects. A unique experience that leaves its mark, both on the skin and in memory.

Guest Festival: LOBO MAU

MOTELX has been the International Horror Film Festival of Lisbon since 2007. A prestigious event showcasing the finest horror cinema produced in recent years worldwide. A cinema celebration that is complemented by varied programming and includes a children’s section, workshops, master classes, exhibitions, concerts, outdoor cinema sessions, zombie parades, games, contests, book presentations, among other activities.

The Lobo Mau children’s section invites little ones, their families, schools, and the entire community to explore the affinity between children’s tales and the horror universe on the big screen. The exhibition of films and the construction of activities aim to stimulate the imagination of the youngest and entertain the whole family with a great diversity of monsters and creatures and fantastic and imaginary worlds. And thus, subvert the maxim that “horror films are fairy tales for adults”.

By invitation of the Galician Freaky Film Festival, we have curated a session of Short Scares, featuring terrifying short films designed to engage the youngest audience in this universe, which gives wings to imagination and allows for addressing more complex themes to demystify them. This selection is a best-of compilation of animation made in Portugal that has already been featured in the Lobo Mau section over the years. From classics of Portuguese animation to tales inspired by national literature, and from diabolical adventures to small doses of terror for all tastes, we present a diverse range of offerings.

The Big Movie

This year, freaks and pequefreaks will be able to enjoy their own mad doctor in one of the most fun and imaginative family comedies of the 80s: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (Spanish dubbed version).

Joe Johnston was responsible for directing this proposal, which combined family comedy with revolutionary special effects for its time. Rick Moranis’s film is a complete adventure through the jungle of the backyard, where the smallest becomes the greatest of dangers. The pequefreaks will be able to relive that sensation of terror and wonder when seeing how a simple ant transforms into a gigantic monster, or how a drop of water can be a threatening ocean.

A unique opportunity to rediscover this classic of family science fiction on the big screen, where humor and adventure go hand in hand to remind us that sometimes you have to make yourself small to see the massive things in life.
