The EFFE Label (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe) is Europe’s quality certification for outstanding arts festivals. The EFFE Label is a vital cultural endorsement that recognizes festivals demonstrating exceptional commitment to artistic excellence, community engagement, and international collaboration.
Mission and Purpose
The EFFE Label is committed to promoting artistic excellence and cultural diversity across Europe by identifying and supporting festivals that contribute meaningfully to their communities and the broader European cultural landscape.
To achieve this, it relies on a rigorous selection process managed by the European Festivals Association (EFA), with support from the European Union’s Creative Europe program, to identify festivals that meet the highest standards in programming, audience engagement, and artistic innovation.
Selection Criteria
The EFFE Label is awarded every two years following a comprehensive evaluation process. Member festivals across Europe are assessed on their ability to deliver exceptional artistic quality while maintaining deep roots in their local communities.
Among all applicants, festivals are selected based on their demonstrated commitment to:
- Artistic Excellence: Programming that pushes creative boundaries and showcases outstanding artistic work
- Community Engagement: Deep involvement with local audiences and meaningful community impact
- European and International Perspective: Openness to international collaboration and cross-cultural dialogue
The EFFE Label is awarded biennially by the European Festivals Association, with support from the European Commission.
The GFFF and the EFFE Label

The Galician Freaky Film Festival received the EFFE Label for 2025-2026 and 2026-2027. The GFFF brings its distinctive identity and selection as the freakiest festival in Galicia, celebrating the most unconventional, transgressive, and boundary-pushing voices in fantastic cinema.
As an EFFE Label holder, Galician Freaky Film Festival gains access to an international network of more than 2,500 festivals committed to artistic excellence. This recognition validates the festival’s curatorial approach and community impact, elevating its profile within the European cultural sector.
The GFFF genre film selection showcases the best and most bizarre, freakish, and fantastic films from international and national productions. This curatorial approach champions films often excluded from conventional distribution channels while maintaining the highest standards of artistic quality.
The EFFE Label recognition acknowledges the GFFF’s commitment to exceptional programming, meaningful community engagement, and international collaboration in bringing underrepresented voices in fantastic cinema to Galician audiences.
