International Competition for Freak and Fantastic Short Films in Development
The Galician Freaky Film Festival presents Freak Pitch, the evolution of our emblematic “What are you up to, freak?” initiative. This international pitch competition focuses on discovering and supporting the best freak and fantastic short film projects in development from around the world.
Freak Pitch represents GFFF’s commitment to nurturing emerging talent and providing a professional platform where creators can present their projects to industry professionals, establish connections with production companies, and gain visibility within the international genre circuit.
Competition Categories
Freak Pitch features two competitive categories, each celebrating different dimensions of fantastic cinema:
International Category
Open to creators, production companies, film schools, and similar entities from any nationality. This category showcases the global landscape of freak and fantastic cinema in development.
Galician Category
Dedicated exclusively to projects with Galician production, reinforcing GFFF’s commitment to local audiovisual talent and the growth of the regional genre cinema industry.
Awards
One award will be granted in each category:
- Freak Pitch Award for the best freak project in development: €500 cash prize
- Galician Freak Pitch Award for the best Galician freak project in development: €500 cash prize
All finalist projects will receive a Waiver Code to be considered for inclusion in the Official Selection of the following festival edition.
Winning projects must include the official GFFF logo in the credits of the final production.
Project Requirements
Eligible projects must meet the following criteria:
- Original and unpublished work (adaptations require authorization from the original author)
- Script written in Spanish, Galician, or English
- Genre focus: horror, science fiction, or any subgenre falling within the “freak” concept
- Maximum duration: 15 minutes, including credits
- Script length: maximum 15 pages (excluding cover page)
- Projects must be in the development phase only (not already produced)
Submission Materials
Candidates must submit the following materials in PDF format:
- Project script in Spanish, Galician, or English
- Project dossier including: synopsis, poster proposal, brief treatment, film references, target audience description, director’s bio-filmography, and any additional materials relevant to the project’s presentation
Selection Process
From all submitted projects, eight finalists will be selected: four in the international category and four in the Galician category.
Project representatives will defend their work in a 6-minute pitch before a professional jury during the festival dates. Pitches can be delivered either:
- In person (recommended): During the GFFF on the date and time designated by the festival
- Online: By submitting a pitch video
Professional Jury
The jury comprises professionals from the cinematographic and academic fields. Their decision is final and binding. The jury reserves the right to declare any prize void if no project meets minimum quality standards.

- Individual creators
- Production companies registered in public records
- Film schools and similar entities
- All nationalities welcome
- Each participant may submit up to 2 projects
Members of the organization and individuals directly linked to the jury are not eligible to participate.
