MIFF: Méliès International Festivals Federation

In 2025, GFFF joined the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) as a Competitive Member, enabling the festival to award the Silver Méliès to the best European fantastic short film in its official selection.

The MIFF is a network of genre film festivals from 21 countries with a combined attendance of over 800,000 people. The federation promotes fantastic European cinema worldwide, and the Golden Méliès is awarded annually at the International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia – Sitges, the world’s most prestigious fantastic film festival.

TAC: Terror Arreu de Catalunya

Since 2024, GFFF has been an Amic Adherit (Associated Friend) of Terror Arreu de Catalunya (TAC), the federation of horror and fantastic film festivals across Catalonia. Founded in 2010, the TAC unites sixteen member festivals accross the Catalan territory and annually awards the Premi TAC to the best horror and fantastic short films of Catalan production.

As the first horror film festival in Galicia to receive this distinction, GFFF contributes a unique perspective on promoting regional languages in genre cinema—an expertise highlighted at Sitges Industry 2024 during the round table on opportunities and barriers for genre cinema in Catalan.

The GFFF’s commitment to artistic excellence, community engagement, and international openness has earned recognition with the EFFE Label (Europe for Festivals, Festivals for Europe), Europe’s quality stamp for remarkable arts festivals.

Awarded by the European Festivals Association and supported by the European Commission, this prestigious distinction places the GFFF among a select community of over 1,550 festivals across Europe recognized for their outstanding contribution to the arts and culture.

Rías Baixas Film Fest

GFFF is a member of Rías Baixas Film Fest, the brand created by the Diputación de Pontevedra to promote and support the province’s leading film festivals as a unified cultural circuit. This initiative positions Rías Baixas as an international reference for audiovisual culture, attracting thousands of visitors annually and extending quality cinema programming across the territory.

Under this brand, GFFF joins five other prestigious festivals:

  • Play-Doc (Tui): International documentary film festival, a reference for non-fiction cinema in Spain
  • Festival de Cans (O Porriño): The iconic “agroglamour” short film festival celebrating Galician productions
  • FICBUEU (Bueu): International short film festival promoting local and international cinema since 2008
  • Novos Cinemas (Pontevedra): Festival dedicated to discovering new promises of international independent cinema
  • Curtas Festival do Imaxinario (Vilagarcía de Arousa): The dean of Galician film festivals, running since 1973

In 2025, the Diputación de Pontevedra allocated 170,000 euros to support the six Rías Baixas Film Fest festivals, reinforcing its commitment to positioning the province as a great cultural and audiovisual destination.

Proxecta: Coordinadora Galega de Festivais de Cinema

Since 2020, GFFF has been a member of Proxecta, the Galician coordinating body for film festivals. Proxecta brings together the most significant film festivals in Galicia, collectively representing:

  • Nearly 70,000 spectators annually
  • Over 1,100 films screened per year
  • More than 480 screening sessions
  • Close to one million euros of cultural investment
  • 81+ days of quality cultural programming across the annual calendar

The network advocates for the professionalization of the sector, institutional support, and the recognition of festivals as essential drivers of Galician audiovisual culture and qualified cultural employment.

Pantalla: Federación Estatal de Festivais de Cine

Through its membership in Proxecta, GFFF is part of Pantalla, the national federation of film festival coordinating bodies in Spain. Founded in 2020, Pantalla unites over 185 festivals and film events across the country, representing more than one million attendees annually and accounting for over 50% of all festivals registered with the ICAA (Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales).

The federation works to:

  • Position film festivals within Spain’s cultural narrative
  • Defend the rights of festival professionals
  • Foster dialogue with public institutions and the ICAA
  • Promote quality, diversity, and sustainability in the sector
  • Pay special attention to rural and depopulated areas

Pantalla is formed by regional coordinating bodies, including Proxecta (Galicia), Catalunya Film Festivals, Matriz (Madrid), La Mesta (interterritorial), ASFAAN (Andalucía), Fescinex (Extremadura), Illes Balears Film Festivals, Fescicom (Comunitat Valenciana), and Ara Film Fest (Aragón)—giving GFFF a voice in shaping national cultural policy for the festival sector.
