The Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) is a network of genre film festivals from 21 countries. With a combined attendance of over 800,000 people, the MIFF is a vital cultural and economic player for showcasing fantastic films worldwide.
Commitments
The Federation is committed to promoting fantastic European films in Europe and beyond by enhancing their visibility and reputation among audiences and within the industry, and by facilitating their distribution.
To do so, it relies on its network of festivals in Europe, its supporting members in Asia and North and South America, and the Méliès Awards, which are granted annually to the most remarkable fantastic European films.
Golden and Silver Méliès
The Méliès is an ongoing competition that runs year-round. Member festivals across Europe award the Silver Méliès to the best fantastic European short films and feature films from their selection. Among all the winners, one is chosen by a jury to receive the Golden Méliès for Best Fantastic European Film of the year. The Golden Méliès is awarded annually at the Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya – Sitges.
The GFFF and the MIFF

The GFFF joined the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) network in 2025 as a Competitive Member. The GFFF brings its distinctive identity and selection as the freakest festival in Galicia, celebrating the most bizarre, transgressive, and uncompromising voices in genre cinema.
As a competitive member, Galician Freaky Film Festival organizes the Silver Méliès short film competition. All European short films in the official selection are eligible for this prestigious award, granted by a jury. This recognition is an ideal way to promote the boldest European fantastic cinema in Galicia, Spain, and throughout Europe.
The GFFF selection showcases the best and most bizarre, freakish, and fantastic short films from international and national productions. This curatorial approach pushes boundaries and champions films often deprived of conventional distribution.
Each year, a jury of film industry professionals awards the Méliès d’Argent at the end of the festival, recognizing exceptional European fantastic short films and enhancing their visibility on the international stage.
